Stories of Resiliency, Hope and Restoration (ENG)

Ranly lives a quiet life, one shaped by fragility, discipline, and hope. Prone to epileptic-like seizures that require regular medication, Ranly understands better than most how easily stability can be disrupted. He lives alone in a small apartment near his mother’s home, determined to remain independent while staying close to family support.

Incarceration was a profound interruption in Ranly’s life, compounding his health challenges with emotional and social isolation. Yet it was also during this period that Ranly encountered a kind of care he had rarely known, one that saw beyond his vulnerabilities and recognized his potential.

Through the BANDILA Aftercare Program, Ranly participated in the “Bukas Loob Tungo sa Pagbabagong Buhay” sessions. These encounters helped him process not only his past, but also his fears about the future: How could someone managing a medical condition rebuild a life with dignity? How could he earn without putting his health at risk?

BANDILA responded with compassion grounded in practicality. Ranly was provided a microbusiness loan to start a small therapeutic massage oil business, an enterprise aligned with his physical capacity and wellness-oriented mindset. With support from the Manila City Jail–Male Dormitory livelihood products stall in Quiapo, Ranly gained access to a ready market. More than a seller, he became a helper—assisting jail officers during sales hours, building confidence through responsibility and service.

But Ranly’s dreams do not end there.

With a background in creative design, Ranly envisions restarting a small business offering 3D printing and sublimation services. This venture would allow him to transform his technical and artistic skills into sustainable income while working within a controlled, flexible environment—crucial for managing his health.

What makes Ranly’s story compelling is not dramatic transformation, but steady courage. Healing for him is quiet, deliberate, and deeply human. Each product sold, each day without a seizure, each step toward self-reliance is a victory hard-won.

BANDILA’s support has given Ranly more than capital. It has given him confidence that his condition does not define his worth or limit his contribution. With continued accompaniment, mentoring, and donor support, Ranly’s small enterprise can grow into a stable livelihood, reducing his dependence and strengthening his sense of purpose.

To support BANDILA is to stand beside individuals like Ranly, those whose strength is subtle but unwavering, whose healing requires patience, and whose success proves that reintegration must be as diverse as the people it serves.
